When the sky is blue or gloomy or see through
I see through to the truth and the moon when I zoom
Eyes big like an owl as I'm prowling about
With my pen in my hand I am never without
I was born in a dark city with petty killings
Two siblings to hold me down like screws on old ceilings
African American
But not your stereotypical
More like the scriptural
Far from the typical
Invisible and lyrical
Hiding behind a choice
To hide my pain and it was hard to find my voice
But I was raised by a downtown Philly poet
She showed me not to hide my pain but to show it
Leave your voice for the world to cherish
So they'll have something to read and reflect on when the time comes and you perish
So for her I became that passionate poet
Who writes with a purpose to leave aftermaths frozen
But for every girl that ever broke my heart
For every marriage I've seen broken apart
For every person whose ever tried to break my spirit
I write just for them to hear it
For every crush Every lust
Every I don't give a..
Sometimes I just write because
Every moment that I felt lower than dirt
Try to get myself to stop it
The pen hits the paper and I shoot up like a rocket
For the times that I feel like a star and every word I write is gold
And I just keep on writing until it never gets old
For the times my mind is full and I need a release
And I sit and write for hours until I fall asleep
There's a moment here for anyone, anytime, any place
You ask me why I write...
I write for the human race.
