Humanities Downfall

When I was younger

I thought being skinny was everything

The epitome of beautiful

Magazines reinforced this

“How to loose 10 pounds in 10 days”

“5 foods that eliminate belly fat”

Models were quoted saying

“Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels”

So I stopped eating.

4 years later, nothing has changed

In fact, it has gotten worse

40% of people with anorexia die

Each year, because of societies expectations

I have learned to ignore anorexia’s whispers

“You shouldn’t eat today”

“You look fat in that”

But I worry for society

So much emphasis is placed

On looks instead of personality

We are teaching the next generation

That ostentation is king

And being a good person is unimportant

That a size zero

Trumps all else.

People need to learn that

A size 10 is just as beautiful

As a size 0

That “don’t judge a book by its cover”

Is actual good advice.

Society needs to be purged of its superficiality

For the good of humanity
