Humanity

Humanity

So hard to preserve,

So easy to lose

on a desolate island

so far from civilization.

It crumbles away,

piece by piece.

Until one is only a shred of

Its previous existence.

When the loneliness

becomes all-consuming

and the fear of fighting

for a life not worth living-

is all that one has,

that is the time

when being human

is most crucial to survival

Alone on this island

far from home and family,

humanity is the savior

of the soul.

With all its failings

and its goodness,

only humanity can save

a lonely soul in a deserted land.
