Hurt By Love

I once believed in the power of love

When I only knew of good in the world

I was with the one I thought the world of

I still remember the way that they twirled

With them, I was as happy as could be

The look of pure joy all over my face

But then they left, and it was only me

And left in my heart is a dark, dark space

Everybody says that love is perfect

And me, I used to believe that was true

I should have known the truth, in retrospect,

My innocent eyes had a different view

But now I have learned and I know the truth

I was wrong about love while in my youth
