Hustle

London skies, stark and gray The first flakes beginning to fall The chill, penetrating The wind, biting The warmth of holiday Enthralling. That time of year again Of laughter and family The hustle and bustle Of city streets People rushing to and fro. Every window lined with lights Rooftop to rooftop strung with stars Sparkles, ornaments and mistletoe At every corner stop. Alongside I run Amid this holiday cheer Thinking of love around the world And I suddenly stop As a girl in a shop Reminds me of a faraway friend. Temporarily forgotten but distantly loved We haven’t spoken in a while. But then I get carried away again By this holiday hustle bustle.
