Hyacinth (Alas, alas)

Alas, alas,

My lover

I fear it is my fault

That you are not in my arms,

That you do not grace me with your presence.

Alas, alas,

My lover

I hear your laugh

In the sweet night breeze

And the static haze of summer songs.

Alas, alas,

My lover

There is naught that I can do

But weep and weep,

As if that would bring you back.

Alas, alas,

My lover

I see you in the hyacinths as they bloom.

As gorgeous as they are,

They are nothing compared to you.
