Hyde Returns
I used to dabble for curiosity’s sake,
To push the limit of what a man could take,
The research passed on was flawed, I admit,
But with each draught, it just seemed to fit,
When myself, I sought love and knew a peace,
But every single time that wretch is again released,
Those potions surface when they harm the most,
Damned to haunt and be haunted by ghosts,
I remember as a lad wanting only my lady fair,
With magick and castles and wreaths in her hair,
Instead, I found harlots cold as the grave,
And banshees dressed as damsels I never could save,
When I sued for peace or logic I lent,
Hyde brought forth a rage, so friendships were rent,
For acceptance I allowed poisons poured in my ear,
They strengthened the monster of universal fear,
Lechery, villainy, secrecy, and revenge,
Were the knells of the bell which signaled my end,
I strive for virtue and to unite with the world,
My complacency opened windows where his machinations unfurled,
He lurks for that moment when I feel all is right,
Then rips through my world to add to my plight,
“You’ll never be happy or truly know love,
I will always remind you we fit like a glove,
You gave measure to teachers who knew only wrong ways,
So, I’ll follow you now for the rest of your days,
You know who I am, I’m always inside,
You’ll never be rid of your friend Mr. Hyde.”
