I Am...

There are many ways that I can define me

My major, my gender, or my history.

Lets start simple, something easy.

My major is definitive, it's Biology.

I am a scientist at heart, a studier of the sea,

Down at the sea I can show you different algae.

But it doesn't stop at algae, you see,

I love marine biology, and that's what I plan to be.

Lets be objective for a second, and discuss my gender.

I am a female, a woman, a wife, a mom.

This is something that can't be argued, I am my son's defender.

And as a wife, I am something different -- I am a love so tender.

Although with my gender comes many titles, they are all met with splendor.

So now you've met me objectively, and have heard my aspirations,

Now lets hop back in time, back to my basic foundations.

I was off to a rough start, something out of a book.

I was raised in poverty, my dad the Heaven's took.

Depression hit hard, and my life become full of temptations.

I fancied drugs and alcohol, for they replaced depression with sensations.

I recovered, and rediscovered my passion for school and education.

This slam asks, "who are you?"

Well I am a lot, I reply.

I am a wife, a mom, a woman.

I am a lover of the ocean.

Marine Biology is my devotion.

In one word, who am I?

I don't know, I'll let you try.
