I Am From

I am from much.

Began in green,

Rooted in backyard gardens

And a red house.

From long country drives

With misty mountains

Looming close by.

I came from Hollie and Bill,

Who lead by example and

Show me that love

Is a choice.

From the twin brother

I can’t remember and the

Grandfather who knew

How to make me laugh.

I came from books,

Old and new,

Stories full of dragons, elves,

Lions that speak and

Boys that fly.

My imagination was formed

By a magical wardrobe

And I learned sense

From Elinor’s conduct.

Idaho raised me

But

Hume has shaped me.

Now I am from quiet days

Spent at Kathie’s bench,

From learning to listen

And see things through

Eyes not of this world.

I am from hours outside,

From walks through the forest

And the twang of a bow,

Arrows shot straight and true.

I am from crazy friends,

Shaped by their well-meant teasing,

Surrounded by community.

And, most importantly,

I am from God.

A daughter of the

Most High,

Fearfully and wonderfully made.

Shaped by His word,

Refined by fire.

Forever rooted in His love and

Joy.
