I Am

You say I am the sun

But you do not know me

For I am not the sun

I am the moon

I am surrounded by darkness

but I still shine

sometimes the darkness swallows me

and I cannot be seen

Every once and a while

I am full and beautiful

I outshine every star

and light up the night sky

Sometimes I am weak

and footprints cover my surface

where they will stay forever

until something smoothes them out

Sometimes I am strong

and pull the tides

controlling the ocean

and how it moves

For now you see

I am not the sun

But I am the moon

Always in the night sky
