I am

Who am I? is the question we all ask ourselves at one point or another

What sets us apart and makes us unique from each other?

Who am I in this world filled with souls?

What’s different about my idea of identity and gender roles?

What are my accomplishments, what are my goals?

Before I look at myself in the present, I have to review my past

Then maybe I can answer the questions I asked

I used to cry myself to sleep

I used to think people’s love for me was only skin deep

I used to wish I was dead

I used to cut myself until I bled

I used to only feel happiness when I read

I used to feel so hated

I used to dread that I was even created

I was once depressed and filled with sorrow

I was someone who hoped for a better tomorrow

I was someone who was quick to follow

Now….

I am a person who has learned from the wars she has fought

I am filled with self-confidence

I am aware of my brilliance

I am realizing that life makes more sense

I am living my life in the future not the past tense

I am still not perfect and will never be

I am glad that I am the only me!
