I Am...

I am African-American.
It's something I've never liked saying before.
I pushed away my race and basked in my skin color.
I hide my feelings, locked them away.
It's something I still do today.
I am beautiful, I am tall,
I am lovely, and I am strong.
No boy, or girl,
woman or man,
could tell me otherwise,
because I know I can.
I am dorky, I am weird,
I am quiet, and I am me.
I am everything I've ever wanted me to be.
