I am...

I am young

Sounds of broken glass and sobs from the other room

Is actually just the sound of adults talking?

I am worried

Red and Blue lights

Mom and Dad kissing us goodbye

Three little girls standing in the street

See you soon

I am troubled

Six months pass, just us three,

With a woman I’ve seen only at Christmas

Six months of detentions

Six months of counseling

I am lost

Mom and us three: home

All there but incomplete

Curiosity killed the cat

Mom bought me a cat

I am healing

Counselors fade

Friends appear

Teachers are friendly

Smiles are frequent

 I am better

Honors student

Cheer captain

Mommy’s little girl

I am happy

Shuttering “A” report card

Sleep overs and shared laughs

Home sweet home

I am grown

My family is both evolved and involved

I am leaving my past in the dark

Because my future is bright
