I AM
I am the 'hood and the suburbs.
I am eloquence and vulgarity.
I am a pair of supple ballet slippers on the dance floor and the girl sitting to the side.
I am the writer and the reader.
I am the roughed up bluejeans and the flowing satin gown.
I am dirty work and the feeling of accomplishment afterwards.
I am the cemetery wanderer and historian.
I am a mother's love and a father's neglect.
I am the gifted kid who no one would ever guess is on food stamps.
I am the first generation graduate.
