I am

I am at a get together

standing in the corner

casually watching people

chatter and mill about

The music starts

the game begins

people shout and cheer

I shudder and make myself small

at that music I hate to hear

Winners rise victorious

from a bamboo horizon

loved by all

Those who hit their heads

scramble to the door

their heads again

bowed in shame

They never did too well

at that limbo game

I know that it's my turn

I dread that wooden stick

I can't run away now

I give it all I've got

I duck and give a warm

lying smile

that says "this is where I thrive"

Music plays on

yet the crowd stays in place

and still I stand

in this one spot

with that lyng smile

still on my face

This poem is about:
Me
