I Am From
I am from leotards,
from GK and Adidas.
I am from flips,
from vault, bars, beam, and floor.
Hours of training, the good and the bad,
all put in for the love of the sport.
I am from the backyard hill, dirty and green,
I always loved the smell of fresh cut grass.
I am from the tomato plants
that we nutured all summer,
from the honey suckle where I sat for hours.
I am from blue eyes and last minute Christmas decorations,
put up just the night before.
I am from Bloomington and a long lost Indian tribe,
from pancakes and french toast on cozy Sunday mornings.
I am from the plane rides my dad and I would take,
soaring amongst the clouds.
I am from pictures boxed up, covered in dust,
still hiding away in the closet.
Pictures from past birthdays and sleepovers with friends.
Pictures from childhood times that have been forgotten.
I look at them sometimes,
so I will never forget where I have come from.
