I am From

I am from the Lantanas in the wind,

tasting every color’s importance.

I am from the tree of orange delights

the strong oak

whose branches held me when

I couldn’t.

I am from the up early

to the read late.

I am from doubt that the sun doth move,

   Hamlet.

I am from the once in a blue moon.

I am from corned beef and cabbage,

potatoes fabricated fifty ways.

I am from the colored concrete fortress.

I am from the Florida sunshine

to the Carolina rivers.

I am from the palm trees

that remain the same.

But angels fall,

so did my concrete castle.

I am from the decision of change.

My fate put on hold,

for a new life.

I am from the deep bellows of darkness,

that now illuminate my dreams.
