I am from the Gladiolus flower of strength

The Gladiolus plant whose long gone limbs I remember

as if they were my own.

from my mama and uncle

I’m from constant prayers and gatherings

and from hard workers

I’m from integrity and generous smiles

and letting God walk with me

I’m from tight hugs and laughter
