i am

“I Am”

faded purple hair

dyed one too many times

music playing through her walls

her mother yelling to turn down the blasting music

she is just figuring out who she is

what she wants to be

who she wants to be

she has difficulty being what everyone wants

the books overflowing her bookshelf help her shape her life the way she wants it to be

the books travel over to where her art supplies stain the table and her posters hang on the walls

sitting right below the art table are her tennis sneakers and her racquet with unaligned strings

her dogs laying across her bed each one claiming their spots with their different sizes

the girl lays on the bed with her laptop opened and her phone pressed to her ear

she reassures her friend of the worries she has about her test

the girl looks around her room and loves that she is surrounded by her favorite things

her eyes wandered to a board filled with pictures of her and her best friend of over a decade

she sees the pictures of them and then her eyes wander to her parents and her boxed in a frame

she sees herself with her brother laughing

she smiles and misses him because he rarely comes home from college

she sees her and her nana she barely remembers

and then her with her grandma that she sees every sunday

she sees herself and her uncle that died a few years ago

she sees her and friends from years ago that she doesn't talk too much anymore

she looks over to her mirror she sees herself

i see myself

I am catie
