I AM
I am no poet;
Neither am I a master of stirring tales or charming words;
And to my name is neither ballad nor sonnet.
I am no knight;
Girded not I with shining armour or arming sword.
I am one given to undying love rather than noble might.
I am no squire;
Neither handmaid nor castle doth I possess.
I am but a man, like any other, with needs most dire.
I am one
With soul and plain-dealing with what I profess;
And heart, distant from perfection but a dwelling to one.
I am a halved soul;
Feeble with strength and condemned to err;
On an odyssey to be made whole.
