I Am
I am from a dark place of black faces
where gunshots ‘clap’ into the night.
I am from the middle
depending only on myself,
I’m quite different.
I am from fantasies
dreams from bigger than me
admiration of Earth’s beauties
a sun bright as a gold coin
trees dancing as the wind praise in freedom
embracing the sounds of early morning singing birds---songs of freedom.
I am from the House
Looking out at the crowd, I see eyes closed
Tears falling, hands lifted
People praising and worshipping too.
I am from the teachings of William
Like, “smile”
His smile so pure
The feel of his sick body as I reach for a hug
His smell remarkably normal
I am from the sea
The dream to smell and taste the salt
Just like the sea, I am dark, deep and unknown
I am invert
I am from dreams,
Dreams far bigger than me.
