I am From

I am from AC DC blaring through the radio.

I am from summer nights, bonfires,

marshmallows roasting and family members toasting.

I am from four wheeler tracks and torn backpacks.

I am from the water, from pools and lakes that we found

tucked away into the smaller parts of the map.

I am from nowhere.

From where you smell the cows

and the corn stalks cut you as you run through the rows.

I am from dirt roads.

I am from small town diners

and stop lights that turn off at 11.

A school where everyone is in one place.

K through 12 and you knew most of their names.

I am from everywhere.

Bits of Virginia and Carolina.

Constantly in movement, afraid to settle down.

My life trailing through Ohio all the way to Michigan.

A trail that I will travel every chance I get.
