I Am

I am the speck on an uneven sidewalk

The curve of a mountainous road

I am darkness when the day is not done

Cold coffee because you've forgotten it was there

I am the knot in her hair

The stifling hold of a necktie

The song you haven't sang enough

Or the lyrics you can't quite recite but the words are there

I am second

Or last

Almost there

Not quite there

I am a bee in the desert

The arthritis in our joints

The blur in a blurry world

Rain on a blue, blue day, or sunshine on a blue blue day

I am the unwritten words

Too heavy, too light, too much, too little

I am the cries that escape

Only so far

A new day

And I am no more
