I Am From
I am from south Louisiana, born and raised
Staying down here for the rest of my days.
The road by Suire’s Grocery, down 335
Across from DeHart’s Welding, on the left side.
The horseshoe subdivision, Arapaho Street
The big open yards are all cut and neat.
There are neighbors all around
But it’s usually pretty quiet, no one makes a sound.
Drive down the road, with houses in sight
The two-story home, the fifth house on the right.
I am from a small hometown, where there is little to nothing
But everyone is friendly, and everyone is loving.
Riding down the back roads, late at night
Bouncing up and down from the gravel, not a house in sight.
Cheering for the football team, I couldn’t be louder
Yelling from the stands, and I couldn’t be prouder.
It’s where pride is evident through the amount of support
Filling the bleachers for every sport.
In this town, it’s where I will always belong
It’s where I grew up, where I learned to stay strong.
I am from a graduating class of one-hundred and six
Everyone fit into one of the cliques.
We supported each other through thick and thin
The friendship amongst each other came from within.
Everyone in the school knew every name
And before long, friends we all became.
There was nothing around, so ourselves we had to amuse
We all jump in cars, roll the windows down, and cruise.
Looking back on all these times, there’s lots to remember
It’s been a year since senior year, we are already in November.
I am from friendships last forever and hometown bands
The whole community is always willing to lend a helping hand.
Everyone participates in every activity
This little town is always active, wouldn’t you agree?
It is my hometown, and I wouldn’t change a thing
Growing up here was such a blessing.
Love is most important, and school is second best
Always be yourself, don’t worry about the rest.
Care about everyone, be the best person you can be
Kindness, happiness, and love all come free.
I am from books on the counter, and dishes on the floor
The mail is all open, and so is the door.
Can’t find remotes, they are missing and gone
Staying outside until there is no one.
Sports are played at the house until the sun sets
There aren’t many people around that I haven’t met.
Bonfires with friends when it gets cold
This is something that never got old.
Surrounding cow pastures, and crawfish fields
I always look forward to family meals.
I am from church on Sundays in the morn
We’ve gone to Grandma’s house after since the day I was born.
First a friendly greeting always followed by a kiss
Falling straight into conversation, beginning to reminisce.
Grandma’s meatballs and Grandpa’s roast
These are the days that I cherish the most.
Family gatherings are what I love
I have the best family anyone could ever dream of.
Chocolate chip cookies and red velvet cakes
These are the desserts that my family makes.
I am from “set a good example” and “I love you”
“Always try your best at everything you do.”
Momma’s first born, and Daddy’s little princess
Cailyn and Cameron’s older sister, and hard work equals success.
Be strong-willed and always stand your ground
Be the person you are meant to be, and never let yourself down.
Always keep the ones you love closest to your heart
Spend as much time with them as you can before you have to part.
“Just pray about your problems, each and every day”
“Are you even listening to a single word I say?”
I am from family vacations each and every year
My family means so much to me; I think I’ve made that clear.
Always showing love, and making it known that you care
Family is for listening, so don’t hesitate to share.
“No means no, so don’t ask again”
When you need to write something, there is never a pen.
Barbie dolls, babies, and good grades are the key
“Treat other people the way you’d like to be.”
Life is not fair, never was, never will be”
I love The Little Mermaid, and Mulan is the best movie.
I am from sitting outside, under the stars
And catching dragonflies in little jars.
Holding hands and getting tucked in tight
Going to sleep knowing that everything will turn out alright.
The sounds of my house, a familiar noise
It becomes ordinary, and never annoys.
Comforting words and being kissed
Everything is wonderful, and I feel so blessed.
Growing up, being sincere
Living life and having no fear.
I am from “family is most important,” and The Young and the Restless
“Be nice to the ones you love” and family togetherness
If you always try your best you will never come up short
Family is always there when you need moral support.
Always remembers and never forgets
If it made you smile, don’t have regrets.
Do you remembers and quit stressing out
This is what my life is all about.
Sweet and simple, a total sum
Put it all together and this is where I’m from.
