I Am

Everything’s changing around me
all the styles, music, and even the people.
Finding my place in this world
Isn’t as easy as I thought it would be
Trying so hard to be a copy of someone I see
Instead of being who He created me to be.
I was given a brain.
I was given a heart.
Both of these blessings,
I tore apart.
All because I wanted to fit in,
not to stand out,
because my soul
was filled with doubt.
But now I have found who I am
And I will do the best I can
To stay true to myself
As true as I can be
To be who I am, and that is me.
Not only was I given a mind and heart,
but I was given talents to tell me apart.
I can dance.
I can write.
I can do both with all my might.
I won’t go back to who I used to be,
because these amazing talents were given to me.
I can’t let these gifts go to waste.
They will help me live the dreams I’ve chased.
I am who I am
and no one different.
Being myself for all the world to see,
that’ll make them be who they are and be set free.
I am who I am
and that is all that matters.
