I am..

When I walked past the mirror

I saw this thing looking at me

It was brown

Brown hair

Brown eyes

Brown skin

Brown mind

Brown which represents the soil with which I will plant my seeds

Blossom the

Know me

And know that I am what I see when I look in the mirror

Strong

Because I have not the option to be weak

In this nation that opresses me

Tells me that I am nothing

But an angry black woman

So angry that my vision becomes clouded

and I can't see

Oh but I can see,

From these strong brown eyes

This visionary mind it tells me

I will NOT be measured by the length of my hair

I will NOT be measured by the width of my thighs

Plus whats a ruler to me

When it can't measure my heart

And whats a scale that can't weigh the power of my mind

And no I can't tell you what you will see when you look at me

But when I look in the mirror I see love

In the way that I give my all

But their is no room for anyone else in  my mirror

affection falls to the back of my mind

I look back and then I feel alone

I may not know where I am going

But I know who I am

I am strong

I am brown

I am love

I am hopeful
