I Am
I am the Oldest child,
Raised on The Beatles and Aerosmith
Grew up Believing in magic,
And an imaginary Friend so I had someone to sit with.
I am now wilted lilacs living inside a writing notebook,
gracing the air with its fragranced touch
during writing binges at three am
on a table that wobbles to the slightest nudge.
I am the master of Acting pretentious,
reading books Laced with convoluted metaphors,
acting too cool for basically Every fun thing,
except for Disney World the place I Adore.
I am neuroscience Book, my Secret guilty Pleasure.
I devour the books like Pretzels on a table at a Party
Learning about the Brain is overwhelming
like the first time turning on a Computer.
I am the same Five Friends since sixth grade,
since you are like the five people you are Closest to.
I am when People make Plans without you
because they are my Only friends and that makes me Afraid.
I am the whispers Behind my Back,
the eye rolls people give when I follow the Rules
I hold my head High because I know I’m doing what is Right
Holding steadfast to my beliefs like the queen’s Precious jewels.
I am the concerts I’ve Lived through
the days when Music has Flowed through my Veins
charging up my tired Body, allowing me to dance to the beat
making me forget the stress Embedded in my brain.
I am the broken soul crushing realization that dreams don’t always come true.
I am unqualified Astronaut (not tall enough) feet tethered to the earth
watching the meteors while the humid air Latches to human skin
I am the talentless Musician who wants to perform
wants to feel the sweaty Crowd screaming my Words back to me
everything Breathing as One, powerful as a tempestuous storm.
I am the secrets I whisper to myself when I’m alone,
whispers Subtle like a Prayer,
I’m an Open book and I Share a lot
But some things, I’m Not prepared to share.
