I Am...

I AM…

I am different

I am not what you may think.

I grew up with one parent,

But that’s not out of sync.

I am not a statistic.

Yes I’m black but I haven’t been locked up,

Being violent is not a characteristic.

I haven’t gone and got a girl knocked up.

I am not on the streets selling drugs

I stay in school and get my education.

You won’t even catch me with slugs,

So why do I have a bad reputation?

I am not dumb or failing,

I keep my grades high,

So you can catch me in college prevailing,

Not letting time pass by.

I am athletically gifted,

But it’s not because I’m black.

Apparently the idea of hard work has shifted,

But that’s why I’m good at track.

I am not defined by what the media may say.

They can say all they want but I won’t listen,

I’ll just get down on my knees and pray

That the world will have a new vision

I am not a poet,

But I had to speak my mind.

So now the whole world will know it,

That I am Keiron and I am not easily defined.
