I AM

I am

Born of coarse earth

Fashioned from the eroded reveries, discipline, and victories

Of those whose heavy breath and thick blood

Supply the oxygen to my inspiration

I am

Of “Broken embraces”

Loud empty air, fast obnoxious talkers, and “speak only when spoken to”

And taking nothing for granted

I am

Of “e te sen” and “me da wo ase”

African kente, spicy food, proudness, and decorative headdresses

Of dancing to soles of your feet begin to scream

I am

Carved from justice

A believer of the light,

Although darkness tries too often to intervene

I am

A dependent of the Nile

A survivor of War

A starving child

And all these pieces are ingrained my molecular structure.
