I Am...
I AM…
I am a soul searching for my next quest
Ready to determine my next victory like conquest
I am filled with difficulties and mysteries like your next math test
I am radiant, brilliant and bright
Never out of mind nor out of sight
Stand out like the sun because I’m full of light
That’s just my personality, and you still try to figure me out like a game of mentality
As a teen I carry burdens hard to shoulder like gravity
Pray to God every day that miracles happen and I don’t have to go through the pain of tragedy
I Am…
I am a young educated black woman at times with the mind of a feminist
Against the discrimination of men toward women who are straight misogynist
My sisters were built strong so let me know if you all are hearing this
And when the soul hits you know I’m down with black power
Against that black on black crime and when I preach it’s to empower
Preaching to my brothers and sisters, making them conscious on what’s happening
So instead of my people taking lives, I’m teaching them how to salvage it
And Black Lives Do Matter, but that’s something ignorance will never get
My people will rise, and until the end of the days, we will never quit
I Am…
What I’m not is invisible
I’m not an abstract idea or an imaginary thought, I’m visual
I am heard and I am seen
And when I speak I articulate so that everyone knows what I mean
What I’m not is a voiceless soul unable to be heard
Because this poem proves otherwise, as well as past events that occurred
So when you ask me who I am, I am a girl with spoken words.
