I am From...

I am from gaming systems,

from Game Boys and Play Stations.

I am from the cold floor tiles and squeaky carpets.

I am from the guava, apple, and banana trees,

the green, red, and yellow hanging treats.

I am from family dinners and family road trips,

from Huynh and Phan and Cam.

I am from the meals at Ca Dao and the occasional lateness.

From eating every grain of rice and not playing with shadows.

I am from Buddhism. Praying at altars and temple visits, though I didn’t really partake in.

I'm from San Diego and Vietnam, pho and steaks.

From the foosball tournaments Lisa, the sleep overs with Nina, Mary and Duy and the Fourth of July fireworks with Kim.

I am from backyard birthday party. Where there was my first pinata, but no candy because ignorance got the better of us.
