I am Acceptance
Acceptance
A word that could kill someone’s inner soul,
A word we all refuse to understand,
A word if used in the wrong context could feel like a stab to the heart.
Acceptance.
The dictionary definition taught at school and home,
but what teachers and parents sadly fail to teach-
is how to apply it.
Accept, acceptance.
You judge before they plea,
come up with their fate instantly.
But for what?
To feel good about yourself?
Do me a favor,
compose a reason and tell me why that girl-
why she is “too thin” “too fat” “too curvy,”
tell me why your judgment of her is based off of her looks.
How can you say those words about that black man,
that gay man,
that boy who wears all black,
that girl who reads books
How can you judge that child?
Why are you allowed to make judgment?
With your cold, microscopic heart,
and endless problems.
Yes, we all have problems.
This world is filled with problems far too complex for anyone to understand.
Our ant like minds drowning in a sea of confusion
as to what is right versus what is wrong.
What does that say about the people of this world?
It says we are all lost.
So far lost that even God has trouble finding us.
And When?
When will we realize that acceptance-
is what we live for.
We die to be loved,
only to turn around and be trampled by the one’s
who don’t see beauty,
who don’t feel.
Trampled by the ones who don’t listen
to the weeping of others.
Acceptance is the air we breath
It is in our bones,
Consumes our minds,
And- Corrupts lives’
We all crave-
crave acceptance
Even those who practice self- love
get lost every now and then.
Because when we have no way of clawing
ourselves out of the deep hole we have fallen into
And no way of finding that glorious light
the one at the end of the tunnel
We have no way, no choice
We are trapped.
Trapped in an endless cycle of hate
a hate so strong it spreads like a disease
And then we paint it across the minds of the forgotten,
make those who want- need.
But if we need acceptance of others…
are we living at all?
Why do we constantly judge and hate?
Coexistence- existing peacefully- together
understanding, loving
tolerance,
acceptance.
This is when we can walk together hand and hand, side by side,
when we can comfort instead of ignore that man that just cried,
when you tell her she is beautiful just the way she is,
when we are friends with different races, not enemies.
Acceptance is the highest form of love,
If there is no acceptance, there is no love,
It’s ironic how in the end, acceptance
is the only thing this world has yet to accept.
And if you can’t find anyone to run to when you are dying inside
because of what that boy posted on Twitter about your weight,
or what that girl said in front of your backstabbing friends-
darling run to me.
I am Acceptance.
Run to me because I know how it feels to be bullied,
to feel like you are nothing more than a piece of trash on the side of the road.
Run to me because I know how it feels to look in the mirror and see imperfection.
I know how it feels to let your mind bully your body.
If you are afraid to speak up
let me because I know what it’s like to be told to
“Shut the hell up.”
“Your opinion doesn’t matter.”
I am acceptance because this boy once told me
that all I was good for was making a sandwich-
that he bets “I’m good with my mouth”
and that the only way I’ll get to the top is if I go down.
(If you know what I mean…)
I am acceptance because I starved myself to lose weight
cut my hair for a boy, spent money that I didn’t really have-
all to be accepted into a clique that will never amount
to my dreams for the future- no ambitions.
I am acceptance because I found love.
A man who constantly reminds me that I am beautiful- just the way I am.
A man who kissed me when I had bad breath.
A man who comforted me when I had a mental breakdown at his house.
I am acceptance because I found my way out of the tunnel
yes the one with the glorious light at the end.
Because I realized I don’t need acceptance of others
I am ACCEPTANCE.
I forgive and forget.
Understanding that some people’s actions are ignorant
and forgiving them for it is important.
I am acceptance.
I do not hate.
There is no room in my warm heart to be angry,
my life here on this planet is too short for constant hatred.
I am acceptance.
I am love.
You can come to me in your most desperate hour
and I will stand by your side- build you up again,
but if you need to fall don’t be scared.
I am acceptance.
I am here for you-
dependable,
trustworthy,
and honest.
I am acceptance.
Acceptance is what this world needs.
