I am Afraid

I am afraid.

I fear for the love,

Which resides within my bosom.

What if I free this heart

To feel the entirety of this world,

Which has unleashed fire against another.

I am afraid.

I fear for the future,

Which only my Lord knows.

What if I choose a path

That leads me to a shadowed place,

Which holds no love for a child’s heart.

I am afraid,

For I have seen the scarred remains

Of those who have freed their hearts

And chosen a path paved in darkness.

I am afraid.

I fear for the generations,

Which will follow my own.

For the world is torn

And hope is no more.
