I am Allowed to be Afraid
I am afraid,
And I’m allowed to be.
I’m afraid of the simple, the tangible, the illogical,
And I’m allowed to be.
I am afraid of spiders, clowns, and elevators,
And I am allowed to be.
I am afraid of my belly button untying,
And I’m allowed to be.
It is only human nature to be afraid,
And I am not afraid of admit,
But I have no reason to face my fear,
Because I know I am stronger with it.
I’m afraid,
And I’m allowed to be.
I’m afraid of the imminent, the impending, the inevitable,
And I am allowed to be.
I’m afraid of growing up and growing old,
And I’m allowed to be.
I’m afraid of life before death,
And I am allowed to be.
I will not try to conquer it out of respect,
I know it enough not to submit,
But I have no reason to face my fear,
Because I know I am stronger with it.
