I Am Alyssa Robertson
If I were to tell you my full story, it would take too long. So I will tell you the parts that I think really shaped me the most. My life changed when my parents divorced. I was about 12 years old, so I knew what was going on and comprehended the fact that my parents did not want to be together anymore. It was Thanksgiving and my mother told my father that she did not love him anymore and that she wanted a divorce; it was the worst day I had ever had, yet. I moved a bunch after that between my father and mother because I did not know which parent I wanted to live with. I eventually decided on staying with my father and his new girlfriend in Missouri. It was nice while it lasted but they eventually split and I had to go with my mother, who lived in South Carolina. One day, my mother and I got into a fight and she started hitting me. My brother had to physically pull her off of me. When she left to go to work that night, I called my father and the next day he was at our doorstep to take me back to Missouri with him. I have been in Missouri ever since. I have gone through a lot while being here, but it has shaped me into who I am today. I have gone through a countless number of friends, some I miss, most I do not. I met a girl that I really liked and we dated for two years. It was difficult because she grew up in a household where that was not acceptable, so we lived in secret for about a year. My family, however, did not carel, they supported it completely. But things took a turn for the worse since being a secret was so difficult; it took a toll on our relationship and I broke up with her. After two years she confessed that she was ashamed of what we were doing. It was the biggest heartbreak I had felt yet. After that, I took a downward spiral, finding love in all the wrong places, or people I should say. Things began to change about eight months later. Every girl and boy dreams of finding their one true love, whether you think about it all the time or not. Well, where I live in Missouri, I had never thought I would find it. The people here are just very different than I am; I have always felt out of place, like I did not belong. Recently, however, I have come to realize that that may not be so true. Yes, the majority of people here are not my cup-of-tea, but one person in particular caught my eye. I had met him in the park with a friend of mine, her name is KeAnna; they had just broke things off between them actually. I had just broke up with someone and was really upset so we all hung out to get my mind off of it. KeAnna suggested that I take a picture with this boy and make my ex jealous; so I did it. Then he got my number and we started texting and we hung out a couple of times. But the first time that he kissed me, I knew without knowing, that he was the better half of me. I wanted more; I wanted to be around him as much as I could. After about a month, though, he confessed that he was not over an ex-girlfriend and that he wanted her even before KeAnna. He had not even been in my life that long, but I cried for hours; I was so sad and could not explain why; I felt empty. Someone so great and amazing was leaving me. After about a week and a half, he texted me asking if he could come over for a little bit; I agreed reluctantly. As soon as he walked through the door he kissed me. I pushed him away and needed answers ASAP. He told me how stupid he was and realized that what he wants and needs was right in front of him. I gave him one last chance and went with it. I do not regret a thing; I have never been so happy. I have become the person I have always wanted to be since meeting him. But, the best part about it is that he did not change me, he stood by my side cheering me on as I found myself. I think that is the greatest thing someone can do for another. I will forever be grateful to him for that. Now, we are moving to Wisconsin so I can start college there, which is why I am typing this paper out. We want to get married and start our lives together. It is true what they say in the movies that when you find your true love, you just know, because I sure do know.
