I am from America

I am from boots and rags,

       cannons and guns,

            ships and sailors.

I am from the beginning.

I am from the sticks and stones.

I am from the society of equality,

        and the words that build us up.

I am from psychological innovation,

From taking risks and being bold. 

I am from "Happy Holidays" and,

         "No child left behind".

I am from teenage pregnancies, 

           and drug addictions.

From the Ebola epidemic,

           The kids with cancer and 

                          The terrorists ruling our streets.

I am from the 21st century.

I am from America.
