I Am For the Art of...
Four years you have taught me
All that you knew.
You gave me a love
For something I now hold dear
But I did not know this 'till last year.
Because of you, I now know my major.
Because of you, I have a stack of books.
Because of you, I signed up for all your classes.
I enjoyed the videos you showed the class,
Especially the one with a woman dancing on butter
To an Adele song, whose title I have long since forgot.
I now understand the meaning of art is as fluid just as paint.
Because of you, I filled my day with enjoyment.
Because of you, I learned to follow dreams.
Because of you, I am happy.
I made pots on those spinning wheels,
Sculptures from simple wood blocks,
Photographs and photograms in that Dark Room,
And even a painting that you hung up and acclaimed good.
Because of you, I am more confident.
Because of you, I can forever be satisfied.
Because of you, I can exprees myself for the world.
You gave me a thirst for a love of our world.
One where I am now invested in it 100 percent.
All because of that one assignment,
with that one line that I will never forget.
