I am a beach
I am a beach.
Here the air is warm
and the distinct salty smell
is sprayed from the ocean.
The waves roll in a constant motion
forming a calming sound.
If you put your feet in,
the water seems to pull you in further,
beckoning you to test it out.
The teal water
appears see through in most places
except a few cloudy patches
where nothing can be seen for some time
hidden.
The sand thickly covers the beach
hiding the jagged, imperfect rocks below.
It is worn down, fine
and very soft to the touch.
Each grain of sand is a different color
originating from a different rock
each one carries an untold story.
The beach has tall tropical trees
that tower over parts of it
covering the land exposed to the harsh sun.
But since not all the trees are big enough
some areas are left unsheltered
and are scorched by the sun.
In the clear teal water
fish can be seen swimming in the coral reef.
They are all different sizes and colors
separate and alone
yet somehow still united.
They work together to shape and maintain the coral reef.
These fish are unaware of things happening
on the surface of the water or on the shore
but are merely concerned with improving the reef.
Seagulls among other birds fly over the beach
squawking constantly distracting visitors on the beach.
They pick at the remains left on the beach
until nothing viable is left.
Blue sea glass can be found scattered along the shore
as a gift from the sea
a token of remembrance
of what can be found from deep within.
A steep cliff juts out in the distance
leading to the ocean
away from safety and into obscurity.
This cliff is the tallest object in sight
the strongest force present on the beach
besides the ocean.
In this cliff
a large cave is evident to those who know where to look.
It’s dark, mysterious and enclosed.
The cave goes far into the cliff
and deep into the ocean
and the water gets more and more black
the deeper it gets.
This cave is unknown to the visitors on the beach
hidden behind various boulders and trees
only a small opening accessible form the beach
acts as an entrance.
At times storms arise from deep within the ocean
they crash against the shore
ruining the picturesque-ness of the beach.
Dark clouds seem to run across the sky
approaching the beach
rapidly.
The beach with nowhere to go
helplessly waits to be pelted by the incoming rain.
It soaks the sand and rocks
until they are dark brown.
Once the sand is too wet
the excess water runs into the ocean
joining the rest of it.
Waves crash against the rocky beach
and swell into whirlpools
spinning faster and faster
into oblivion.
These waves are strong and persistent
and over time they break down the strong cliff
chipping away the rock little by little.
Although the ocean can be rough
there are times where it is also very calm.
The sun shines and the water is very serene.
The wind blows gently
the smell of the ocean
carried on its tail
welcoming all who choose to visit.
I am a beach.
