I Am Black and Beautiful

I am courageous and strong!

I may not have the best hair,

Or be the smartest of my peers

But,

I AM beautifully flawed.

The shade of my skin

My growing intelligence within,

An eager passion to be successful

I face adversity with a welcoming hand

I am willing to learn, willing to fail

I am defined by real life experiences

Hurt, joy, ache, and tears

The curve of my hips, my luscious full pink lips

Does not classify me in any way

My aptitude, my compassion, and empathetic spirit,

Molds me into the person that I am today

Striving to make my family proud

Proving to the world that black woman can be whatever they want to be

I refuse to be another statistic

Believing in myself, even when all hope is vanished

I am blossoming like a pink rose

Loving the dark skin that I am in

Loving the curl pattern in my thick, black hair

I wonder where life is going to take me,

I hear whispers of hate,

I see people smiling in my face,

I am a warrior

I am a fighter

I am a believer
