I am from books,from
I am from books,
from Dr. Suess all the way to Stephen King.
I am from inconsistent homes.
(Dispersed, unique, each place always looked different).
I am from succulents,
strong, eager to live
I’m from consistently birthing boys that are always short,
from Josh and Gary.
I’m from the drop-outs and hard-workers.
From Quit acting like a girl! and Don’t grow up too fast.
I’m from watching movies on Sundays, while my friends were busy.
I’m from South Carolina and then some,
toast and coffee in the mornings, and multicultural attempts for dinner.
From the back my Papa broke working his hardest,
the times my father spent working out budgets for the week.
All the photos and home videos lost to the fire,
does not mean much when it comes to family,
for they will always be in my heart instead of on paper.
