I Am Cassandra, Bearer of Bad News

I was named after

A woman who no one ever

Listened to

Cassandra

Bearer of bad news

Speaker of truths

Begging to be heard

I understood,

Her pain

Perhaps

All women understand

What it is like to be

Cassandra

Begging to be heard

Crawling on our knees

Dismissed are our words

Begging for them, please

Please listen, my

Tears glisten

Throat is raw

I tell the truth!

I cry out

Please, please listen

Because I am Cassandra

Bearer of bad news

Speaker of truths

I may be ignored

But I am unrelenting

Because I am Cassandra

Bearer of bad news

Speaker of truths
