I am.. A contradiction

I was.. a contradiction of innocence

And world-weariness when I met you.

You with you dark curls and darker motives

I swore to myself I would see our beautiful, twisted story through

But I learned it's better to leave the darkness

Before the darkness become you

I am.. a contradiction of love lost

And freedom gained

When I looked into your eyes, I didn't truly see the cost.

You asked for my return. So I gave you shards of myself

Unknowingly breaking myself in the process

When I realized the twisted game

I ran away.

I will be.. A contradiction of brokeness

And unbreakable strength

The shards I left behind may have left a mess

But in my breaking I became stronger

I've learned from this terrible test

And have become

A beautiful contradiction.
