I Am Crumpled Paper
I am the optimist, the hopeful shout into the opaque abyss that imortally echoes;
I dance irreverently and condemningly while the elders shun away;
I don't laugh at pain, I laugh with Death while we play our game of chess;
I am the fun, the party - I don't cry, I don't feel lonely, I don't have strife.
My lip bleeds, my skin turns a light purple, my eyes become wild;
I am tough, I do not cower, I push off my knees and pull my gloves to my face;
I dance around the ring this time, like a fast waltz, left jab, right jab;
I am the hero, fighting and punching - but this is the story where I die.
All I see is Death... destruction ravishes my friends and my family;
I am alone, I am lonely, I am nothing and nobody;
I have no name, no tag, no claim, I am lost and crippled;
My soul is old and damage - but I keep moving, because I have to.
I am a writer, and I become defined by the characters I write;
I encapture the personality, and I split myself into them;
I am surrounded, lonely, optimistic, pessimistic, liberal, conservative;
I am a paradox within my own mind and I love it.
