I Am Ever-Changing
As a child I dreamt of my future self
A perfect combination of everything I wanted to be
But now, old and still growing, I’ve realized something
I am ever-changing, my soul is not static
I am not a sculpture forever imprisoned in one moment
I am cotten candy, crystallized sugar,
blushing pink and oh so delicate
Just waiting for someone to take me into
their warm embrace, to melt soft and sweetly
I am the ocean, wild and unmeasurable
Darkly deep, with many secrets yet to be uncovered
My ocean currents gently reach to touch the shore but
also violently crash against the coast,
spraying salty mist that stains the cliff faces
I am a snapdragon, growing amongst a garden of weeds
Shockingly yellow, brightening the dull morning
and gently following the wind as it blows by
I am a star, glittering vividly against the inky
night sky, slowly gathering my energy for my supernova finale
I am an oak tree, my roots implanted deep in
the dark soil, holding steady against the strain of years
My golden syrup leaves slowly twirl to the ground as
the seasons change, gradually notifying the world
