I am FLAWLESS
I am FLAWLESS
People keep correcting me
"Sit up straight,
lose some weight,
dress well,
show off
be modest,
be humble."
It's a never ending
mantra of contradictions.
When I was young,
I had the privledge to
have a mother that
knew she looked beautiful
without makeup.
Worked out to be fit
not skinny.
She never once told me
that I needed to work
in any way to be beautiful.
I only needed to be myself.
However, not all young girls
were as lucky as me.
Some thought that they
were ugly without makeup,
or they had to eat and act
a certain way to be considered
"pretty".
We should not teach our girls
to be walking contradictions
always trying and changing
to please everyone but themselves.
We should tell them that
makeup and all other aesthetics
are optional,
that they are worth the air they
breath even though they are
bigger than a size two.
Emphasis should be on
intellect and being happy
instead of coercing all
of these young, delicate
minds into believing there
is a certain way to look
which our society deems
"pretty" and they are
worthless otherwise.
Our girls deserve to
be as lucky as me, and
know that no matter what
your life is yours,
and yours alone.
No one can force you to
live it in a particular way.
No one.
