i am fortunate

I am fortunate.

That my parents broke glass,

put holes in the wall,

but didn’t touch me.

I am fortunate.

that my break downs never occurred,

in public.

I am fortune.

That the bullies only used

words,

rumors,

and Isolation.

Not physical violence.

I am fortunate.

That when he screamed,

cursed,

and threatened,

after the demons left his eyes

he said I love you.

I am fortunate.

that when they took things to far,

even though I said no,

that I left with no bruises,

and they sent flowers.

I am fortunate.

that everyday,

there was food on the table,

and $20,000+

worth of credit card debt,

in my parent’s name.

I am fortunate.

that I work 79 hrs a week

every summer,

instead of having college loans.

I am fortunate.

That my scars,

are only whispers on my wrists,

instead of large jagged lines.

I am fortunate.

To wake up everyday intact,

even though,

somehow,

I can’t find a smile.

I am fortunate.
