I Am Free

They come with scarves

To cover my eyes

So that I may not see

Truth or light

They come with shackles

For my hands and feet

So that I may not go

So I may not reach

My tongue is then

Tied in knots

So I may not speak

My own thoughts

They come with lies

To bind my mind

To cast out all the pure

The divine

Then finally they come

To take my soul

To leave my body

An empty hole

I try to flee

I try to run

But I'm alone

and the deed is done

So here I lay

An empty shell

Living life on earth

In my own hell

I cannot cry

I cannot feel

I start to wonder

If all this is real

I push through the crowd

Another body, one more face

Another bound mind

Another lost case

There comes a time

When I suddenly see

Realize there's nothing

Nothing left of me

I close my eyes

Tears fall like rain

And with them comes

A new sort of pain

A tingling feeling

rushes through

I see that I am

Being made new

The blindfold disintegrates

The shackles fall

My tongue is freed

To cry and call

And I cry out "Save Me!"

Did anyone hear me?

Who took off my bonds

So suddenly?

When I was oh so lost

And drowning in fear

Crying for help

Did my God hear?

Yes He did. He must have heard.

He says he'll not let go of a single bird

So I know he's taking care of me

And with His grace I know I am free
