I AM a Girl

I was a bird.

I’d fly through the days.

Unnoticed by some,

But closely inspected by others.

I’d prey on worms to keep myself fed.

I’d watch the young with a careful eye.

I was a child.

I was too weak to move.

Noticed by everyone,

But not for good.

I preyed on nothing,

But the voices in my head

Kept me going until

I lost everything I had.

Until I almost lost myself.

I am a girl.

I glide through the days.

Unnoticed by some,

Inspected closely by others.

Most think it is easy to wake,

But few know the pain I face.
