I Am Her
I am shy.
I'm the girl that falls in love with the guy.
The girl that never looks him in the eyes.
I am sweet.
But always worry about what I eat.
Constantly choosing the salad over the meat.
I am smart.
Even though I'm told to think with my heart,
And that falling in love isn't a taught art.
I am young.
Parents worry about the cigarette smoke in my lungs.
Neighbors gossip about the girl that only hugs.
I am a poet.
Only my pen and paper seem to know it.
My mother tells me that I never need to show it.
I am alive.
At 16, I don't understand why,
but I hate the fact that one day I will die....
And that all my words will be lost to the silence.
The thoughts stolen and never heard, never provided.
My deepest secrets are residing,
Between the pages of a HelloKitty diary.
The hopes that I carried,
are being buried in the cemetery.
I am her.
The girl with heavy thoughts.
