I Am a Huge Mess
I am a huge mess
I promised mama success
Haven’t kept my word
And the excuses are absurd
But life isn’t easy in the ghetto
I try to escape but I can’t let go
In all the corners lie temptations
They prevent my graduation
And this brings frustration
I am seventeen
And I got my dreams
But something always gets in between
I ask myself if I belong in the streets
Is this just a cycle that repeats?
I am brown
Not the brightest and can be simplistic
But I can’t be proof to all these negative statistics
Its time to wake up
And make up
Times are rough
And what I’m giving now is not enough
But I am tough
I am a fighter
A survivor
Everything is possible
I can overcome these obstacles
Now, I got a clear vision
And I’m making the right decision
Mama will be more than content
And I promise mama will stop paying rent
Now, when I look in the mirror
I see a man with a career
Not a failure
Bless education, for she is my saviour
Yes, I am a huge mess
But I am a work progress
and right now, I have an amazing mom to impress
